Technical Visits and Tours
All technical visits will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday 25 September 2024.
The technical visits are low cost and/or FREE for regional delegates (South America + Caribbean and Bands 2-4 countries) - registration is required to secure a place. Some technical visit will require travel by bus/coach, travel tickets will be issued at the start of the Congress via the registration desk at the Congress Venue located at UTEC. Places are limited and are offered on a first come, first served basis.
All registered Congress delegates will be issued a booking access code to secure a place on a technical visit, the booking page can be found here.

Santuario arqueológico y Museo de Pachacamac
Located in the Lurin Valley, south of Lima, the sanctuary is one of the most important pilgrimage centres of the pre-Hispanic period, with occupancies dated back to 5,000 BC. It is an exceptional testimony of the civilizational process in the central Andean area and the continuity of this process, as it brings together material expressions from different societies and cultures that occupied, during various times and continuously, the territory of the central Andean coast.

The museum houses one of the most important collections of Peruvian colonial art (16th-18th centuries), and a conservation lab. It is located in Barranco, in the mansion built in 1906 by Pedro de Osma y Pardo, an eminent lawyer, politician, and collector. The museum stands out for its French-inspired style, art nouveau stained glass windows, metal ceilings, and crystal chandeliers, as well as a beautiful garden setting.

This pre-Columbian textile museum covers the first raw materials employed, and textile history within Peruvian territory, tracing the development of a myriad of pre-hispanic cultures (1,000 BC- 1,500 AC). The visit will include access to the storage facilities of the museum, where cabinets can be opened by those interested in studying the pre-hispanic textile art through close observation of different of techniques and designs in fine examples by skilled textile workers.

Sitio Arqueológico Mateo Salado
The site was an administrative-ceremonial centre built by the Ichma people (1100 – 1450 AD) and later occupied by the Incas (1450 – 1532 AD). It gets its name from the Frenchman Matheus Salade, who arrived from Europe in the 16th century and lived as a hermit in the archaeological complex. Conservation efforts have focused on the analysis, development, and application of techniques tailored to address the deterioration of architectural structures.

The Palace of the Exhibition, the building that houses the Lima Art Museum (MALI), was constructed in 1869. In 1872, it was inaugurated on the occasion of the "Great Exhibition of Arts, Sciences, and Industries". It has a long history as the venue for numerous institutions over time. In 1961, permanent exhibition halls were opened with collections spanning more than 3000 years of Peruvian history, from pre-hispanic, colonial, and republican art to contemporary art from the mid-20th century. The visit will include the storage areas and conservation workshop.

The museum is one of the most important archaeological collections that houses over 5000 years of ancient Peruvian history and its connection to the pre-hispanic societies' relationship with nature. Its collections enable an understanding of the development of these societies and appreciation of their accessible storage with more than 30,000 archaeological pieces and the documentary area.

PROLima is an organization whose purpose is to promote the recovery of the historic centre. The tour will be focused on the visit to two restoration projects: The mural painting on the facade of the Church of La Soledad (16th century). The second visit will lead us to the Old Hospital of San Andrés - the first to be founded in Peru in 1538 - the research carried out for its restoration, and the archaeological excavation- conservation storage.

This unique museum is the only Italian museum outside of Italy, offered by the Italian community in Peru on the occasion of the first Centenary of Peru's Independence. It is illuminated with natural light and adorned with exterior decorative details featuring coats of arms of the main Italian cities. Additionally, two large murals made of Venetian mosaics represent prominent figures from Italian history. The museum houses a significant collection of paintings and prints by renowned Italian artists from the late 19th century to the early decades of the 20th century.

Museo y Convento de Santo Domingo
The Santo Domingo Museum and Convent is a religious complex founded by the Dominican friars in 1535. It is an excellent place for those enthusiasts of art, history, architecture, and religion. It showcases religious art from colonial times, a vast library that houses thousands of ancient books and manuscripts and majestic altars and paintings.

The collection of the Central Museum is a noteworthy display of Peruvian art throughout the ages, spanning from ancient times to the 21st century. The museum houses the Cohen gold collection, archaeological pottery, traditional folk art, and republican painting galleries. It reflects both the continuity and artistic transformations that have occurred in different periods and regions in Peru. The building served as the headquarters for the Central Reserve Bank of Peru for more than 50 years until its conversion into a museum in 1979. Architects skillfully modified the structure, maintaining its original design.

Named after Antonio Raimondi, the most significant scientist in 19th-century Peru. The museum houses a rich collection of paper-based objects (watercolours, drawings, manuscripts, maps, among others), as well as personal belongings of the scholar, donated by the Italian community in Peru over the past ninety years. Raimondi, who arrived in Lima in 1850, spent nineteen years extensively exploring the entire Peruvian territory, conducting studies across various fields of natural sciences known at the time.

This museum, established in 2019 by the Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano (ICPNA), houses a collection of prints by Peruvian artists employing various techniques, creating a rich repository through processes such as callligraphy, aquatint, lithography, woodcut, linocut, intaglio, screen printing, or mixed media on paper to digital matrices.

The Cultural Centre belongs to the Universidad Nacional Mayer de San Marcos (the oldest in the Americas) and houses a Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and an Art Museum, which were established in 1919 and 1970, respectively. The visit shows a rich collection of pre-hispanic artifacts and an extensive array of Peruvian portraits (16th to 21st centuries), folk art and contemporary art. Moreover, since San Marcos offers a professional degree in Conservation and Restoration, the visit will include a description of the career, its challenges and opportunities.
