Towards an International Network of Care: A Survey of Time-Based Media Art Stewardship in Latin America

The Conservation Center at New York University would appreciate it if you would share the following survey with colleagues in Latin America who care for collections that may contain time-based media art.

¿Está usted a cargo de las colecciones modernas y contemporáneas de su museo o institución? ¿Contienen estas colecciones elementos como arte digital, videoarte y arte electrónico? Si es así, ¡apoye nuestra iniciativa! El Conservation Center del Institute of Fine Arts, New York University ha organizado la siguiente encuesta para identificar las mejores prácticas actuales y las preguntas abiertas sobre este tipo de obras de arte y cómo se cuidan en América Latina. La investigación y la educación en este campo emergente se desarrollan sólo de forma gradual y local. Puede resultar difícil acceder a la bibliografía pertinente y las barreras lingüísticas pueden inhibir el intercambio de información. Promover el intercambio es esencial y se necesita una red interdisciplinaria e internacional. Esta encuesta está disponible en los cuatro idiomas siguientes: inglés, español, portugués y francés.

O Conservation Center do Institute of Fine Arts da New York University organizou o seguinte inquérito para identificar as práticas recomendadas atuais, bem como as questões em aberto sobre esses tipos de obras de arte e como elas são geridas e cuidadas na América Latina. Uma série de fatores afetam o desenvolvimento desta área, nomeadamente o facto de se tratar de campo emergente onde a pesquisa e educação são graduais e locais, bem como o facto de a maioria da literatura poder ser de difícil acesso. Um outro fator que inibe a troca de informação são as barreiras linguísticas. Por estes motivos, promover o intercâmbio é essencial e há a  necessidade de criar uma rede interdisciplinar e internacional. Este inquérito está disponível nas quatro línguas seguintes: Inglês, Espanhol, Português e Francês.

Le Conservation Center de l'Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, a organisé l'enquête suivante afin d'identifier les meilleures pratiques actuelles et les questions ouvertes concernant ces types d'œuvres d'art et la manière dont elles sont traitées en Amérique latine. La recherche et l'éducation dans ce domaine émergent ne se développent que progressivement et localement. La littérature pertinente peut être difficile à obtenir et les barrières linguistiques peuvent entraver l'échange d'informations. Il est essentiel de promouvoir les échanges et un réseau interdisciplinaire et international est nécessaire. ENGLISH Towards an International Network of Care: A Survey of Time-Based Media Art Stewardship in Latin America Are you in charge of modern and contemporary collections in your museum or institution? Do these collections contain items such as digital art, video art, and electronic art? If so, please support our initiative! The Conservation Center at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University has organized the following survey to identify current best practices and open questions about these types of artworks and how they are cared for in Latin America. Research and education regarding this emerging field develops only gradually and locally. The relevant literature may be difficult to reach and language barriers can inhibit the exchange of information. Promoting exchange is essential and an interdisciplinary and international network is needed. This survey is available in four languages below: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.

Please complete this survey by March 3, 2024. Data collected from the survey will help us organize a webinar in early summer 2024 to discuss the care of time-based media artworks in private and public collections specific to the needs in Latin America.
