Low pressure portable table. Practical course for the self-construction.
Submitted by Marina Herriges on 08 Apr 2024
20|21 Conservação e Restauro, a portuguese art conservation company, invites Davide Riggiardi to teach a 3-day workshop aimed at conservators that wish to know how to build their own suction table and use it.
Overview
This workshop has been developed around the treatment possibilities of using the heat and low-pressure table. The characteristics and methods of using adhesives will be examined, as well as the principles governing its operation. The course aims to illustrate how the heat and low-pressure table effectively solves adhesive, cohesive, and deformation problems on polychrome textile substrates, with cold or heat lining operations.
Program – Theory/Practice
Introduction to adhesion and cohesion methodologies. Composition and operation of the various vacuum systems: hot table, low-pressure table and portable low-pressure tables and their potential for activating thermoplastic adhesives, the flattening of lifts, the recovery of deformation, lining, accelerated evaporation, forced suction. Case studies presentation. Design of small low-pressure tables to be inserted into the inner part of the frame. Design of thin elements to use the low-pressure table between canvas and frame. Use of self-made low-pressure tables on artworks or samples.
