Nominations for Honorary Fellowship

The International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC) is uniquely positioned in the world as an independent international professional institute and learned society that has been at the forefront of inquiry and discovery in the field of conservation since its founding in 1950. IIC brings together conservation professionals from around the world - educating, enabling and recognising excellence.

At the heart of the Institute is its Fellowship. Today IIC has a strong global network of distinguished Fellows, elected by peer review, and entitled to use FIIC after their name. IIC Council can also confer Honorary Fellowship, which is the highest accolade that the Institute can bestow upon a member of our society.

We would like to extend a special invitation to members to nominate an individual, whom they believe has made an outstanding and remarkable contribution to heritage preservation or the work of IIC for consideration for Honorary Fellowship.

The first Honorary Fellowship was awarded to Edward Forbes in 1958, with Joyce Hill-Stoner being the latest to be awarded in 2021. IIC Honorary Fellowship exists to honor the dedication and inspirational achievement of a person to the field of conservation or who has given exceptional service to IIC. A full list of our Honorary Fellows can be found here.

We are excited to receive nominations recognising individuals whose efforts, leadership and forward-thinking contribute to and enrich the field of conservation.

The Role of the Honorary Fellowship

The primary responsibility of an Honorary Fellowship is to function as a representative of IIC and its core values. Honorary Fellows serve as an inspiration to our Fellows and members worldwide by demonstrating their unwavering commitment and accomplishments in the field of cultural heritage. They are distinguished leaders and advocates for IIC, with their multifaceted activities in the profession.

This is a lifetime achievement award, and the Honorary Fellow will no longer pay Fellowship fees and will be entitled to use Hon FIIC nominals after their name.
