Workshop: Stain reduction on ceramics with Lauren Fair (register now - online or in-person)

Register now for half-day online attendance or two-day in-person attendance.

KIK-IRPA and the Ecole nationale supérieure des Arts visuels de La Cambre are organising a workshop with Lauren Fair (Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library / University of Delaware, USA) as part of the Cultural Heritage in Crisis (CHrisis)project. The workshop is aimed at conservators and restorers of ceramics interested in stain reduction principles and an introduction to challenges faced in flood-affected regions in Belgium.

The workshop provides an in-depth look at the principles of stain reduction on ceramics. Lectures, including cleaning theory, materials and application methods, and shared case studies from years of practical experience, are paired with hands-on sessions that enable participants to experiment with common reagents and poultice materials on stained ceramic test pieces. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a solid understanding of the chemical and physical properties at play during stain reduction treatments and feel comfortable exploring these treatments in their own conservation labs.

The workshop has two ticket categories: online attendance for half a day on the 26th of March 2024, and in-person attendance for 2 days on the 26th and 27th of March 2024 at ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels (Belgium).

The workshop will be held in English and is exclusively for ceramics conservators.
