Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s The Domain adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden and near the Central Business District, the Gallery acknowledges the original custodians of this land – the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. About the role
Working collaboratively with Conservation team and Gallery staff to coordinate and undertake Objects conservation programs for the Gallery’s collections and exhibitions, including assessing and preparing artworks at acquisition, and for internal and external exhibitions, displays and loans, to ensure the integrity and quality of artworks is maintained. What technical / soft skills you require
1. Tertiary qualifications in Conservation specialising in Objects conservation or professional membership of AICCM; thorough knowledge and understanding of the physical and chemical construction of artworks: chemistry, art history, artists' methods and materials and techniques used.
2. Demonstrated experience in coordinating and undertaking conservation projects and in the examination, documentation and treatment of works to a high standard in the area of conservation specialty along with demonstrated knowledge of current international standards for handling, packing, transport and display of artworks.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of both domestic and international conservation principles, ethics and requirements as identified in the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials Code of Ethics and its international counterparts.

Targeted questions
1. Traditional conservation principles are increasingly challenged by contemporary art that is flexible, ephemeral and variable. Provide an example of a collaborative project you have worked on in your area of specialty that required you to think in new ways about what it means to care for artworks in the twenty-first century. 2. Leadership and mentoring skills are essential in this senior conservation role. Provide an example of a project where you had to lead or mentor a group of people in either a treatment or the development of a conservation strategy. (400 word limit)
