From January 2012, IIC has been fortunate to have a new, go-ahead, publisher for Studies in Conservation, Maney Publishing. Even in this short period, new features have been added to Studies, such as colour illustrations throughout and deep digital access using metadata. Studies in Conservation, Reviews in Conservation and congress preprints are now available back to 1980 through the search portal (https://www.iiconservation.org/publications/sic). In last year’s volume for 2012, we added the Vienna Congress preprints to Studies. In this year’s volume for 2013 , we have added 25% extra content to Studies. In next year’s volume, for 2014, 50% more content will be added to Studies, and the Maney portal will host full digitised copies of all IIC’s academic publications. All these valuable improvements cost money to implement, resulting in increased membership rates.
I hope that you and your staff are taking full advantage of these improvements. Increasingly the “added value” of your membership of IIC is being provided digitally, through our website at www.iiconservation.org This is far more flexible, since it can reach people with limited access to the paper copies. Your institutional membership enables three of your staff simultaneously to log into the IIC website to access these resources, and for up to five of your staff who are not IIC members to attend the Congress at the reduced membership rate.
As you probably know, the next IIC congress will be held in Hong Kong in 2014 and the preprints (paper and poster synopses) and the fully peer-reviewed postprints will published as an online supplement of Studies. We look forward to receiving contributions from your staff to improve yet further the contents of Studies.
