X-ray powder diffraction is becoming an important method of analysis for the analytical conservator. Results are recorded on a standard photographic film, as a series of concentric circles. Most laboratories using x-ray diffraction will soon have collected a series of reference photographs centered round their particular interests. The apparatus described is designed to allow the rapid comparison of a new photograph with one from a reference library. The two photographs are placed in a frame and their images are brought into juxtaposition on a screen. Garry Thomson
