Chemical analyses made up to now by the writer and others seem to indicate that lead stannate was probably far more popular in old paintings than was thought. It is even possible that the antimonate was not much in use before the 18th century. The writer suggests that further information is needed on the use of lead stannate and antimonate during the 14th-19th centuries, and on the earliest and latest uses of these pigments. (G.T.)
