A time to pause and reflect - the passing of Kate Smith

It is with a heavy heart that we share the tragic news that Kate Smith, IIC's Digital Engagement Editor passed away on 15 November 2022. The whole IIC team were devasted by Kate's sudden and unexpected loss and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this incredibly sad time. Kate was a very dear colleague, anher wit, intelligence, professionalism and charm will be incredibly missed.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 30 SECONDS

Opening up the Zoom chat propelled this year’s IIC Congress Student Meeting into action. With a simple click, Amber Kerr, Meaghan Monaghan and Alexandra Taylor welcomed 46 participants into the fray... and it was quickly established that convening online for just such a meet-and-greet made the world that much smaller.

Photomechanical Prints: History, Technology, Aesthetics, and Use symposium

The Foundation for Advancement in Conservation (FAIC) is now accepting proposals for the upcoming Photomechanical Prints: History, Technology, Aesthetics, and Use symposium taking place at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, October 31-November 2, 2023.

The deadline for submissions has been extended until Friday, November 18, 2022. Proposals are welcome across disciplines and a broad range of subjects that reflect the diversity of the field.

Tune into any episode of the ECPodcast and you will hear, “This is the ECPodcast: by and for emerging conservation professionals,” playing over a catchy piano jingle. The podcast was started a little over two years ago by Liz Hébert, a masters student studying paintings conservation at the University of Amsterdam. Episodes have covered a range of topics that pertain to ECPs (emerging conservation professionals), from writing a thesis to working a second job. Read on to learn about what it takes to put a podcast together, and what’s coming up next in Season 2.

IIC 2022 Edit-A-Thon on Climate

Alongside COP27 Egypt and continuing the great success of last year, IIC is organising another 24-hour global edit-a-thon, 16 - 17 November 2022, to edit and create content for the world's largest encyclopedia, Wikipedia, focused on Cultural Heritage Conservation Sustainability.
