Applications are invited for appointment as Head of Preservation and Conservation (at the rank of Assistant Librarian I) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 503562), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should have significant training and experience in meeting the preservation and conservation needs of the Libraries as evidenced by (1) a good first degree and a recognized professional qualification in information science (M.L.S. or equivalent) OR a Master's degree PLUS advanced training in preservation/conservation; with at least 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience OR the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in academic libraries; (2) strong written and oral communication skills in English (Chinese spoken and written skills are not required but will be seen as a plus); ability to prepare reports, document procedures, draft policies, and conduct and interpret surveys; (3) strong interpersonal skills to liaise with all levels of Library staff, users and vendors; (4) demonstrated ability to manage a group of professional and support staff and complex activities carried out in a distributed work environment, including working with staff from across the Libraries as the leader of the Preservation and Conservation Division; and (5) demonstrated expertise in either book, paper or photograph conservation. Training and experience in print and non-print preservation best practices as well as knowledge of issues and trends, including demonstrated knowledge about the lifecycle management of digital assets are required. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate workflows independently, to exercise individual initiative, to be flexible in a dynamic work setting, to encourage team work and cross-divisional collaboration and to analyze and solve complex problems; excellent organizational and management skills with a strong public service orientation are also required. The Head of Preservation and Conservation is encouraged to develop his/her own self and to make contributions to the profession.
