Join the Wilshire Conservation and Museums Advisory service (CMAS) on a 12 month fixed term contract!


CMAS aims to promote excellence in the care and use of collections by providing conservation advice and practical treatments to heritage organisations and the public. It also supports museums in Wiltshire to meet professional standards.

About the role

As a CMAS conservator you will carry out conservation treatments on a variety of objects including archaeology, social history and ceramics; undertake site visits to help organisations identify and prioritise their conservation needs, carry out materials testing, and give advice about good conservation and collection care practice. We work with a wide range of clients, including staff and volunteers from museums and heritage organisations, archaeological contractors, community organisations and individuals.

About You

We’re looking for Conservators with a conservation qualification and experience of working on a range of materials. Experience of working in a commercial conservation environment is desirable. You will be up to date with current treatments and best practice, with a desire to continue developing your skills within this role.

You should be well organised with excellent communication skills, have the drive, enthusiasm and initiative to work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary team. You will be able to plan work streams, taking a proactive approach in anticipating workload and prioritising accordingly, have good customer care skills; and enthuse a wide range of audiences to participate in heritage-related activities.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday, 11th January 2022.

Where possible interviews are virtual, but due to the nature of this role interviews will be in person. Current public health advice is followed for candidate and employee safety.
