POSITION TITLE: Associate Objects Conservator
REPORTS TO: Senior Objects Conservator and Director of Conservation
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time with benefits
DURATION: 5 days/week

SUMMARY: Preservation Arts seeks an experienced full-time Associate Objects Conservator to join our expanding objects and outdoor sculpture departments to work in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary environment. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of post graduation experience and a Masters degree in Conservation. The company’s main focus is the conservation of contemporary and modern art although objects from all periods and materials are treated.

REQUIREMENTS: A Master’s degree in Conservation with a speciality in objects or sculpture is required. Ideally the conservator should possess a wide range of hand skills, inpainting skills, and the ability to perform physical tasks in an outdoor setting. Equipment operation including aerial platform and other machinery will be part of the training, although any experience will be an advantage. The candidate should have strong communication, organizational skills and have experience in research with contemporary art materials and issues. Treatment practice and documentation must be of an exceptionally high standard. The position requires a focused individual who can work independently, as well as part of a cohesive team in a fast paced environment. Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be provided if selected for hire. At this time we are unable to sponsor work visa applications.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Preservation Arts Associate Objects Conservator will have the following responsibilities: The conservator will undertake studio treatment of objects as well as occasionally assisting with the conservation of outdoor sculpture in a team setting. There are often opportunities for cross-disciplinary team working such as on exhibitions, public art projects, time based media and murals.

Treatment of Objects:
The conservator will undertake a range of treatments on objects and outdoor sculpture for private, institutions, and public clients with differing materials to the highest level of quality, and to AIC ethical guidelines.

Documentation:
The conservator will be responsible for documentation and treatment reports in accordance with the Preservation Arts protocols and standards.

Anoxia and Pest Management facility:
As needed will assist the Senior Objects Conservator to manage the day to day activities at the Pest Management Facility. This will include assisting in the documentation of objects, equipment troubleshooting, maintaining and monitoring the bubble and/or other enclosures, tracking environment and maintaining supplies.

Research:
The conservator will work collaboratively with the Director of Conservation and others to conduct research, write academic papers, or prepare for conference presentations.

Interdisciplinary Duties:
The conservator will often be required to work collaboratively and in an interdisciplinary way with other conservators in different departments at Preservation Arts. They will be required occasionally to assist with the Outdoor Sculpture Department projects, and work on site in a team setting.

Represent the Company:
Represent Preservation Arts for onsite work at institutions, clients residences and art shipping companies while undertaking assessments, condition reports, condition surveys and treatments. The conservator may occasionally be asked to travel onsite for the above mentioned tasks.
