Call for abstracts: International Symposium SFIIC 2026

Non invasive study and research approaches for cultural heritage conservation

29-30 of January 2026, Paris, France.

The 2026 International Symposium of SFIIC (French Regional Group of the International Institute for Conservation - IIC) will be hold in Paris in January 2026.

It is organized by all the Working Groups of SFIIC (Painting, Wood, Plaster and Stone, Textile, Mural Painting and Polychromy, Materials of Contemporary Art, Gilding) in partnership with INP (National Institute for Conservation).

The congress will focus on non-invasive methods and tools used for the understanding, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. We aim to assess their advantages and limitations, to study the extent to which their increasing use has changed our scientific environment and working practices, and to develop a reflective approach to this new paradigm, which tends to move the laboratory towards the workshops and the works themselves.

This congress aims to address the conservation of both movable and immovable heritage, ancient and modern, and made up of a wide range of materials. We therefore invite all cultural heritage professionals to submit abstract for a paper or a poster on this topic. These non-invasive approaches, which we understand in the broadest sense, could be related to the knowledge and documentation of works of art, as well as studies and research into their materiality. Communications could concern variety of topics: historical, technical and scientific, deontological...

The languages of the congress will be French and English (with simultaneous translation for oral communications).
