Request For Expression of Interest for Conservators

PCL ED, a Joint Venture, acting as the Construction Manager, is inviting Conservators of various disciplines to submit their Expression of Interest to pre-qualify to bid on the conservator portion of the Centre Block Rehabilitation Project.

Paintings of the 21 Old Spanish Missions of California by Edwin Deakin - their story and conservation by Scott M. Haskins

Twenty-one famous oil paintings of the old Spanish missions of California painted by Edwin Deakin between 1897 and 1899 are part of the collection at the Santa Barbara Mission Archives Library in Santa Barbara, California under the direction of Dr. Monica Orozco.
In the 1800's, many artists painted the California missions, especially closer to the turn of the century with the onset of the popular Arts and Crafts movement, or more particularly in the Southwest and California, the Spanish Revival or Mission Style.

Vale Dr Colin Pearson, “Father of the Conservation Profession in Australia”, friend and mentor to generations of conservators in Australia and internationally. The Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM) is saddened to report the death of Dr Colin Pearson, AO, MBE on Sunday 17th April 2016. Colin was a former Council member and Vice President of IIC.

IIC-ITCC 2017 Workshop

The third thematic workshop in the IIC International Training Centre for Conservation (IIC-ITCC) series has successfully opened on 14 November. With the focus on textile conservation, 23 mid-career conservation professionals, representing a spectacular variety of backgrounds from around the world, have been selected to attend this intensive hands on workshop. The workshop is now taking place for the first time in the newly established ‘Hospital for Conservation’ at the Palace Museum, also the largest science institution for heritage conservation in China.

Casa Vicens becomes a museum

BARCELONA - For the first time in its 130-year-old history, the first house designed by Antoni Gaudí will be open to the public to become a museum.
Casa Vicens was built between 1883 and 1885 in the Barcelona neighborhood of Gràcia, will open in October following a major two-year restoration led by a trio of Spanish architects. This is the latest building dsigned by Gaudí to be opened for public view, becoming part of the so-called Gaudí Route which includes the famous Sagrada Familia.
