INTACH Conservation Institutes (ICI) is organising a series of talks on various museums in India- ‘Museum of India: Challenges and Solutions’. These talks will focus on the museums’ history, types of collection, preventive care and management issues.

The next online talk is by Dr. Hansmukh Seth and Ms. Chelsea Santos from the City Palace Museum, Udaipur on 31st July 2021 at 4.00pm IST.

Topic - ‘The City Palace Museum, Udaipur: Activities and community engagement’
The City Palace of Udaipur, founded in 1969 has been open for the visitors for more than 50 years, under the aegis of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF). The objective was to build a world class Museum and educational institute to study, document and preserve the living heritage of Mewar. This presentation will provide a glimpse into the various activities taking place at The City Palace Museum, Udaipur; ranging from documentation to conservation, exhibition and outreach as well as efforts at community engagement.

Topic – ‘Exhibiting paper and metal artworks: Preventive care and exhibition design’
This presentation will look at the nuances of creating an art exhibition in a historic structure, and the need for a multi-disciplinary approach. The mediums of paper and metal will be explored, and corresponding preventive care measures incorporated at The City Palace Museum, Udaipur will be discussed. Through this presentation, participants will be provided an overview of the Museum’s vast collection, historic significance and an insight on what to expect next.
