Call for Contribution to the Speed Exchange

Title: Semi-synthetic and Synthetic Textile Materials in Fashion, Design and Art
21-23 February 2023 (Free online event)

The ICOM-CC Modern Materials & Contemporary Art and Textiles Working Groups are planning an informative Speed Exchange Session for the upcoming Joint Interim Meeting. The Speed Exchange Session will be held online within the meeting on February 23, 2023. Anyone with a conservation/preservation/mounting tip or problem related to the meeting theme of Semisynthetic and Synthetic Textile Materials is invited to participate. With semi synthetic and synthetic textile materials we refer to for example: fibres, elasticised textiles, coated and foamlaminated textiles, films, and innovative manufacturing processes such as 3D printed and smart textiles.

The hope is that this provides a space for presenting projects or case studies that may not be large enough to warrant a full paper or poster but still invite interest and discussion. It will also be a place to share problems to which you are seeking input from colleagues, as well as mistakes that could be useful learning moments.

Contributions could include: a small treatment that you would like to share; new technique, tool, or material you've been using for treatments; lab equipment you customized for conservation purposes; a creative solution to an everyday problem; a vendor you've discovered for hard-to-find gadgets; tips for managing the workflow of large or complex projects; treatments that didn't go as planned or have you stumped, failures that can help others facing similar situations; challenging degradation and/or conservation issues.

Contributions should be short (5 minutes max) and can be informal – such as a couple of images or even just a few quick words to present the situation.
