'Collaborative Conservation and the Renovation of the Field Museum's 70-Year-Old Hall of Native North America'
Stephanie Hornbeck, Gantz Family Collections Center - Field Museum
Since November 2021 a dedicated Conservation team is working on the renovation of the Hall of Native North America. The Field Museum has 770,000 objects in its North American collections and it's one of the world's largest and most significant collections of its kind. Our work in conservation on this project involves two large phases: de-installation of objects from the 70-year old Hall and preparation for object installation in the new Hall to open in late 2021. The Conservation team is engaging our Native American advisors and other collaborators in our work. In January, the 4-person Conservation project team, working with colleagues in Collections and Exhibitions, completed the 17-month long de-installation of 1500+ items, representing 80+ tribal groups. The team has been actively working on the second phase, which will take more than a year to achieve.
This program and subsequent lectures in the series are free to all members of either MRCG or CACG. You do not need to live in the Midwest or in the Chicago area to be a member of MRCG or CACG. REGISTRATION ENDS ON THE 3RD AT NOON. This will give us the time to process any last minute request for new memberships.
