We are delighted that this year's IIC AGM Talk was delivered by IIC Fellow, Dr David Saunders, "the museum environment in an era of sustainability" on 30 January 2023. The talk was kindly hosted by the Courtauld Institute of Art, Vernon Square campus, Lecture Theatre 1.

Dr David Saunders, a leading conservation scientist with extensive experience working in large museums in the UK, will speak about the era of sustainability and its impact on the museum environment. Energy use and our carbon footprint are of key interest to institutions and conservators, whether related to heating, lighting or exhibitions. Conservators are engaged in initiatives to improve conservation practice and reduce waste.

Dr David Saunders is an Honorary Research Fellow at the British Museum where he was head of the Conservation and Scientific Research department until 2015. He worked previously at the National Gallery, London from 1985 to 2005. He was visiting professor at University College London 2017–21 and at the Conservation Center, NYU in 2018. Guest scholar the Getty Conservation Institute 2015–16 and inaugural Getty/Rothschild Fellow in 2017. IIC Fellow since 1993, member of IIC Council (vice-president 2013–2018) and editor of Studies in Conservation 1990–2009.
