Prof. Dr Luiz A.C. Souza FIIC Appointed Deputy President of IIC Council

IIC Council is delighted to announce that Prof. Dr Luiz A.C. Souza FIIC has been appointed Deputy President on Council.
As a full professor of Conservation Science - CECOR, Centre for Conservation of Cultural Heritage at the School of Fine Arts, Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Prof. Dr. Luiz A.C. Souza was originally elected as an ordinary member of Council at the 2023 AGM, serving in this capacity since then. His term as Deputy President will be concurrent with his term elected to Council.
Prof. Dr. Luiz A.C. Souza has championed various initiatives including the Brazil Hub, which formed part of the IIC Lima Congress and was invited to give the prestigious Forbes Prize lecture at the IIC Lima Congress in 2024, which focused on promoting social diversity and inclusion in cultural heritage preservation, an area that he hopes to continue to champion as part of this new role on IIC Council.
Following the appointment Luiz commented, “I still vividly remember visiting the IIC Office in London back in 1987, when I was a Chemistry graduate student already exploring the intersection of science, technology, and cultural heritage conservation. Since then, I have closely followed IIC’s evolution into a truly global community of conservation professionals. I am delighted to contribute to the internationalisation of the organization, fostering social, geographical, and economic inclusion and diversity, as well as supporting IIC's Council and the President in their various responsibilities. It is an honour to continue my work with IIC in this new endeavour”.
