Innovate: Sustainability and Leadership for New Times
A bold new international leadership course for mid-career conservators in emerging economies.
After months of planning, and with generous funding from the Getty Foundation, IIC is pleased to announce the next iteration of our prestigious IIC Congress Scholars Programme – Innovate: Sustainability and Leadership in New Times. This new international leadership course will build on the success of ‘Adapt’ and will be open to mid-career conservation professionals (with at least five years' post qualification experience) from priority regions.
This six-month online programme will start during the IIC Lima Congress in September 2024 and will run to February 2025, averaging a commitment of four or five hours per month, and with a variety of engaging online live events with course leaders, small groups, mentors and coaches. By the end participants will be equipped with new networks and contacts, new insights into their own leadership style - plus a certificate of participation.
Funded support to develop leadership skills with an international cohort
We believe it is crucial that leaders emerge in conservation from every part of the planet, lowering barriers to participation wherever we can. The 30 free places on the programme are open to all conservators and conservation professionals working in emerging economies - including IIC priority regions: South America + Caribbean, Africa, South-East Asia and South Asia.
All selected participants will receive an automatic stipend and digital grant totalling £170 GBP to help support online participation in the programme. Additionally, everyone on the ‘Innovate’ programme will receive full, free congress online registration to enable participation remotely and a digital copy of the Congress proceedings for our IIC Lima Congress.
There will be a selection process to gain a place on the course - if it is oversubscribed, there will be a preference for IIC Members.
A snapshot of the programme
- Four online masterclasses to develop leadership skills and awareness. Topics will range from leading innovation, finding new strategies, fundraising and effective communication.
- An online future focused 'round table' event to take place during the Congress live week exploring ‘sustainability and leadership in new times.’
Optional elements include mentoring and taking part in three interactive online workshops that will blend training (sharing skills and tools around leading change/ influencing) with peer to peer learning, reflection and planning conversations to help find solutions and put learning into action.
Above all, we are looking for participants who are open to learning about leadership and to sharing experience and ideas generously with your peers. ‘Innovate’ aims to create a legacy of new relationships and networks for participants, so you can continue to grow your skills, confidence and learning after the programme finishes.
We would be grateful if you could share the news with your networks and if you are interested in applying, applications will open on Friday 14 June with information posted to this page.
The deadline for applications has been extended to 16 July 2024. If you have questions, or barriers to participation, please contact Marina Herriges.
We hope many IIC Members will want to take part, and look forward to hearing from you.
