Studies in Conservation

Studies in Conservation aims to be the premiere international peer-reviewed journal for the conservation of historic and artistic works. The intended readership includes practising conservators of all types of object, teachers of conservation, collection or conservation managers, and conservation or museum scientists.

Studies in Conservation publishes original work on a range of subjects including, but not limited to, advances in conservation practice, novel methods of treatment, preventive conservation, issues of collection care, conservation history and ethics, examination methods for works of art, new research in the analysis of artistic materials or mechanisms of deterioration, and conservation issues in display and storage. Scientific content is not necessary, and the editors encourage the submission of practical articles to help maintain the traditional balance of the journal. Whatever the subject matter, accounts of routine procedures are not accepted, except where these lead to results that are sufficiently novel and/or significant to be of general interest.

There is no minimum or maximum length for an article. However, succinct contributions are welcome, while authors of papers longer than 10,000 words may be asked to abridge their manuscripts. Review articles do not fall within the scope of Studies in Conservation but may be published in IIC's other journal, Reviews in Conservation. For more detailed information on preparation of manuscripts and the submission procedure, potential authors are referred to the Guidelines for Authors, which can be downloaded from the link below, or obtained from the editors: studies@iiconservation.org.

Non-members may subscribe to Volume 48 (2003) onwards via James and James (Science Publishers) Ltd. However, that costs more than an IIC subscription, which brings other benefits.
