Visits and excursions

Friday 19 September

After the hard work of the technical programme, we are arranging two sorts of visits to some interesting venues, some of them quite spectacular.

Half-day visits in or near London

For those who do not want to sign up for a whole-day trip, an exciting programme of half-day trips is currently being finalised. These will include visits to a range of conservation studios, projects and historic properties, currently including the following:

  • The V&A Museum
  • Museum of London
  • Natural History Museum
  • Tate Britain
  • The British Library Conservation Centre
  • Westminster Abbey Conservation Project
  • Osterley Park House (The National Trust)
  • Ham House (The National Trust)

A full detailed list of half-day trips will be available in early May.

Delegates will be able to attend one or two of these trips and most will be accessible by Transport for London's Bus and Underground services. Participation in most of these half-day visits is included in the delegate fee, although a modest charge may be necessary at some venues and/or for pre-arranged lunch.

There is no advance booking for these events, but places will be limited. For planning purposes, it would be helpful if delegates would express an interest in advance of the conference.

When the full list is publicised in early May, delegates will be invited to indicate which venues they may be interested in visiting. During the Congress, delegates will need to confirm their place(s), and pay any extra charge.

Accompanying persons are welcome to attend.

Whole day excursions

We are arranging some exciting outings with a conservation focus. The transport provided will return you to the Victoria & Albert Museum in time for the Farewell Reception. For some of these, we shall travel by coach and stop for lunch (not included). There will be a fee for these excursions, payable in advance at the time of registration.
