Opening reception at the KHM Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna
Monday, 10 September 2012 at 6.30 pm – 8 pm
The Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna in its magnificent building on the Ringstraße was opened in 1891 by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary. It houses the large Habsburg art collection with works from seven millennia – from Ancient Egypt to the late 18th century – and will provide an impressive venue for the opening reception of the Congress.

In the centre of Vienna, the new campus of the University of Vienna is a superb venue for this IIC Congress. The main presentations will be in the new lecture theatres, the Hörsaalzentrum, with linked rooms hosting other meetings and the trade fair. The campus itself is a fascinating example of the re-use of an historic building complex; the site is the eighteenth-century former General Hospital of Vienna.
Student participation in IIC has always been welcomed, and we are delighted to continue to offer a new ways for this to take place.

On Wednesday we are arranging some exciting outings to venues in Vienna as well as to the Abbey of Klosterneuburg, just outside Vienna.
Up to 500 experts in the field of cultural heritage preservation are expected to take part in the Vienna IIC Congress – conservators, art historians, conservation scientists, as well as conservation students from museums, universities, collections and other scientific or cultural institutions. These delegates with different interests and responsibilities will come from all over the world, particularly from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. The Congress will address a broad variety of topics related to the decorative arts and crafts.
Thanks to the generosity of the Getty Foundation IIC is able to offer a limited number of grants to enable practising conservators from developing countries to attend the IIC 2012 Congress in Vienna.
